If you want to study in England after the Bachelors’s, going through the UCAS portal will be essential. UCAS (Universities and Colleges Admissions Service) is the equivalent of Post-Bac Admission to study at a British university.

The main stages

The different stages appear very clearly on the UCAS website and are very simple to carry out. Here is a summary of what you will be asked:

Sending the application:

As soon as registrations are launched, you can connect to the UCAS portal for UCAS application by creating an account with a username and password. You will then be asked to start filling out the file with personal information.

It will, of course, be necessary to inform the universities in which you wish to study with the courses which you wish to follow. Normally, you have prepared this step well beforehand because once the training courses have been selected, you will no longer be able to modify them.

The next step is to fill in your educational background. When you entered college and high school, what courses do you take. If you have done small jobs you will also have to fill them in.

The “personal statement” is a step that is very often hated by French high school students! You will have to write a cover letter in English. Explain why this training interests you and what your professional project is. Don’t hesitate to have a teacher proofread you to make sure you don’t make mistakes.

The next “reference” step is to give the contact details of someone who knows you and who can argue in your favour. It can be a former professor for example (it is better that this person can speak English).

Finally, the site will ask you to pay the sum of £ 23 if you apply for more than one course. Otherwise, the cost will be £ 12. You can pay the amount directly online. We told you it’s really simple!!

The registration deadlines are set for mid-January. However, if you wish to study at one of the prestigious universities of Cambridge or Oxford, the deadlines are fixed mid-October.

Then the UCAS takes care of transferring your file to the universities.

University responses

How British universities handle a file is confidential. However, it was noted that the motivation letter and the notes to the BAC have an important role. Some very selective schools may ask you to have an interview. However, this step remains rare. You will get feedback from universities in June.

Your application may then be accepted under certain conditions, accepted unconditionally, canceled (if you have not sent a requested document for example) or refused. If your choice has been accepted, you will finally be able to confirm it by sending the additional documents.
