Visa to study and work in Canada
Temporary residence permit or eTA
One of the most common Canada visa for foreign students who come to study courses lasting less than six months is the temporary residence permit, also known as the Visitor Visa. This visa is attached to your passport and with it you can study, however, you do not have the permits to work in Canada.
Another option is the Electronic Travel Authorization (eTA), an authorization valid for up to 5 years. Please note that it is only available to nationals of certain countries.
Student Permit
Student permission is required if you are going to study in Canada for more than six months and want to work at the same time. If you process this permit, you will automatically be given a Visitor Visa or an eTA depending on your nationality.
As we were saying, its great point is that with a student permit you can legally complete your Canada study overseas for up to 20 hours a week during the course and up to 40 hours a week during the holidays. This as long as the course you study is not in languages.
The requirements to obtain it are the following:
- Accredit enough financial means to pay for the course, the plane and to subsist in Canada. You can also submit a letter from the person who is financially responsible for you, for example your parents.
- Present a criminal record certificate.
- Get a medical exam to show that you are in good health.
- Demonstrate to a migration officer that you will be leaving Canada once your study permit expires.
- Three passport- size photos and payment of fees ($ 150 CAD).
- Be enrolled in an official educational institution accredited by the Canadian government
