For you, we have prepared some tips on how to get financial assistance for studying abroad.
If you want to study abroad, but are not able to pay for your studies, there is a way out. You need to get a grant or scholarship. They are issued, as a rule, by universities, the government (for example, this is the case in the USA) or non-profit organizations and foundations. Suppose you have found a grant or scholarships for international students. What’s next? And then you need to apply correctly. For you, we have prepared some tips.
Learn the rules
In different universities and organizations, the process of applying for a grant or scholarships for international students is different. Therefore, the first thing carefully studies the rules. Usually, they are listed on the website of the program or university. It is essential to follow the points, excluding any improvisation.
Keep track of time
Find out exactly what the application deadlines are. Usually, it should be provided several months before the beginning of the school year. You will not collect the required package of documents in one day, as this is a long process. Plus a few days for delivery. That is, you need to send everything in advance, and therefore start collecting documents even earlier.
Refine the list of documents
Usually for a grant or scholarship is required:
- profile,
- issued transcript and notarized translation of the diploma,
- a motivation letter (or an essay on studying abroad) and a CV,
- foreign language test results (for example, IELTS or TOEFL),
- letters of recommendation from teachers or employers,
- copy of valid international passport,
- diplomas, certificates and other documents obtained or as a result of the completion of training courses.
Fill in the form
The first and most important thing is that all the boxes should be filled in! If one of the columns does not apply to you, write “not applicable.” This will save everyone from unnecessary questions.
Fill out the form carefully. Recheck it several times. Your name and surname should be written in the same way as in the passport and diploma transcript! Otherwise, problems will arise.
Do not forget to provide a valid phone number with an international code and a valid email address.
Do not overload the questionnaire with unnecessary information. Save it for a more free-form essay.
Subtract
Carefully re-read the questionnaire, letters, and essays. Make sure that there are no errors in them. If you are not confident in yourself, give it to someone who is fluent in a foreign language. Documents with spelling or grammatical errors do not cause respect to the applicant.
Get it right
The format and design are two critical points. If the scholarship or grant program site has requirements for registration, follow them. The only place where you can allow yourself some freedom is the motivation letter. Other documents must prove that you are a serious person.
Check by list
Before sending documents, make sure that you have everything that is required. As a rule, applications with an incomplete package of documents are not considered. They do not even fall into the hands of the commission, as they are sifted out at the first step.
