Studying in the UK is interesting, prestigious, and promising. True, the cost of training here is quite high, which limits the chances of getting a British education to foreign students. But especially talented and capable students can receive a scholarship or grant that will partially or fully cover the cost of training.
While studying abroad is increasingly attractive, the costs of this type of study often hinder some of the students.
Keep in mind that even though an international mobility grant may be issued by your department, it is awarded on a case-by-case basis with the students most in need.
Scholarship programs are funded by public or private foundations, and many universities also provide scholarships and grants. The competition for their receipt is very high, and certain requirements and conditions are mandatory for potential scholars.
You are more likely to get this scholarship if the training you are targeting is not possible in your home country. This is one of the main award criteria. You can also get a scholarship on merit or social criteria.
The opportunities to study abroad, let’s face it are increasing year by year. There are many international programs for which it is possible to apply for a scholarship abroad, at a university or – why not – at a research institution.
Almost all the universities in Canada – as well as often the institutions for the promotion of the language and local culture abroad – provide scholarships for all tastes.
A number of major universities in the UK also provide grants to international students. The main condition is usually an excellent student performance. Most often, university scholarships cover, in part or in full, tuition, while living expenses and travel expenses will need to be paid by the scholarship holder.
Studying abroad in most cases guarantees a good job, as you gain knowledge of a foreign language, a foreign diploma, and more practical knowledge. But paying for a foreign university will have to be decent. Scholarships for college students help partially or fully cover training costs.
To qualify for the payment of a student grant, age, graduation, nationality, or enrolment in a higher education institution are required.
Student scholarship: for whom?
The student grant paid on social criteria is awarded to students who face material difficulties that do not allow them to pursue higher education.
However, the student grant remains a complementary help to that of the family. In particular, it cannot be used as a substitute for the maintenance obligation of the parents. For the record, the law requires parents to maintain their children, even adults, as long as they are not able to support themselves.
Student grant: what are the conditions of the award?
Applying for scholarship in UK universities is subject to certain conditions:
- Age
- Diploma
- Nationality
- Resources
What are the award criteria?
The number of fellowships and their criteria varies from country to country. In general, a student enrolled in a Master’s degree will have priority over a student enrolled in the first year of the Bachelor’s degree: the higher the level of study, the easier the scholarship is to obtain.
