Studying In The UK: 5 Things To Know About The English School System

After talking about the American school system and ironically emphasizing the “oddities” of the English people, we want to talk to you about the school system in the UK and the excellence that characterizes it, also to make you understand that it is certainly worthwhile embracing a culture different from the Indian, one also to enjoy the considerable educational benefits that studying in the UK entails.
Studying in Great Britain is a common practice for many Italians: among the many European destinations, in fact, it is certainly the one preferred because of the language. However, if you decide to study in the UK you will not only learn correctly one of the most spoken languages in the world, but you will also attend prestigious schools or universities and you will live within a stimulating context in which tradition and innovation coexist harmoniously.
Studying in the UK: high school
If you have decided to attend the entire high school, or part of it, in Great Britain, you must know how the educational system is structured which, divided into 13 total years, provides for compulsory attendance, just like in Italy, up to 16 years.
In Britain, there are private schools and public schools. The former tend to be particularly prestigious and, as already mentioned when they offer food and lodging, they are called Boarding Schools. In addition to the quality of teaching, which is particularly high, these schools are also renowned for the corpus of teachers and students who have attended them in the past.
The English school year begins in September but ends in July. The final exams give the possibility to obtain the following qualifications:
GCSE/IGCSE (General Certificate of Secondary Education), which are obtained at the age of 16 and sanction the term of compulsory education
A-Level which is obtained, after the GCSE and following a 2-year course in which the students learn three or four subjects related to the university course in which they would like to enroll. IB Diploma that is an international degree that, offered by many British schools, is obtained around the age of 18 after a two-year course of study.

The University in the UK
In Great Britain, there are many universities with a really large number of degree courses. Unlike the Italian university system, the English one always provides for a centralized admission procedure managed by UCAS. The admission and UK student visa criteria are different and symptomatic of the evaluation system adopted by the single university.
The academic year is divided into 3 term (four-month periods) or 2 semesters. In addition to classroom lectures, English university courses include numerous group seminars, project development laboratory activities. Each student, who is assigned a tutor, is required to carry out multiple researches or activities independently, in order to develop a critical, autonomous and pragmatic approach to the disciplines learned.
For students, who want to study in the UK, it is very easy to socialize both within the focus groups, and on the campus and in the university residences where, in addition to staying, they can study, play sports and have fun.
