Going to study abroad is a particularly exciting project, especially for a young student! So much so that we sometimes forget to prepare well for his departure! Do not panic, and we have put together a list of 6 mistakes not to commit to preparing your studies abroad.
Miss preparation
The key to a successful study in USA is, of course, anticipation and preparation. One of the first things to do when you are looking at where you want to go is to find out about the host countries and cities offered by your school or university. Even if at first sight a destination seems interesting to you, to live there and to spend holidays it is very different.
Once there, you will not be able to change your choice! So make a careful selection based on testimonials from other students, blogs from expatriates, forums and a study of the cost of living. Also, do some cultural research so as not to be too shocked in case the local lifestyle is very different from yours.
To clutter with too much luggage
To start a semester or even a year abroad requires to prepare suitcases intelligently. How to get all your stuff in so little luggage? Overload is the most common mistake of starter students. It is indeed a little confusing, but take only what you are comfortable to carry, and especially remember that, on the spot, you will undoubtedly make some purchases that will come back with you.
Keep in touch, but not too much!
Keeping in link with loved ones while studying abroad is, of course, important, but it is also a trap in which one should not fall! For some people, adapting to a new country can be difficult: staying connected all day long can help you get away from it all. Conversely, others change so quickly that they forget their loved ones.
So you find a happy medium, rationing your exchanges with your loved ones without neglecting them. A beautiful proof of maturity and independence!
Forgetting to work
Always keep in mind that you are leaving as a student, not a tourist. Although your stay should be pleasant, allocate a reasonable amount of time to your studies because it would be a pity if this experience does not affect your educational background. During your studies abroad, it is essential to find a balance between your social life and your academic life.
Do not explore the surroundings
Study English language in UK is an incredible opportunity to combine travel and study, so take the opportunity to explore the surroundings. Ask about the trips organized by your establishment, often the associations put in place inexpensive trips and that will allow you to meet other students. Let yourself be tempted by the discovery of this new culture that is offered to you: travel to new places, taste new flavors, meet new people! The years of study abroad are often the occasion of beautiful encounters and imperishable memories.
