We all deal with certain kinds of stress in our life. But few of them come as close as staying in a foreign land away from home. While it is true that education demands a lot of grinding and sacrifices, not being with the family and friends is hard to deal with anyway. But there is no reason of despair. With a little bit of spirited efforts you can easily cope with the stress to study overseas.
.Become more organized- The best thing that you can do to keep stress at a manageable level is to be organized and plan everything in advance. Having prior information on what your week would be like helps you in easing your nerves thereby allowing you to stay on a par with the schedule. This way, you can also plan any events, study table or important work that is likely to be forgotten.
.Make some time for rest- You also need to make sure that you have some down time. All work and no play make Jack an incredibly stressed-out student. It is necessary to engage in some recreational activities. There are even sports clubs in the study abroad program and out in the community that gives you the chance to mingle with people from all parts of the world. Not only will this give you some time off from thinking about your studies, but also give you the opportunity to make some new friends, who you may need around when you’re not feeling so good. The more you socialize the more opportunities and invites you get in the form of social gatherings that gives a lot of options to regale and sets a perfect platform for networking with students of various fields and universities.
.Stay in touch- Although it’s important to make new friends; do keep in touch with good friends from home and, of course, your family. Some of the students from certain parts of the world may find texting expensive. Hence it is better to schedule chats over the Internet, a free medium of communication as long as you have an internet connection. Weekly online meeting with your parents and someone very dear to you can definitely let you have a lot to look forward while you are studying in foreign university albeit both of you are on different time zones. Chances are, this person will be missing you just as much as you miss them, so they will be able to sympathize with you.
.Negate the nostalgia- On the other hand; you shouldn’t obsess over your life back home. If you develop constant communication through messages, it may make you feel homesick and perhaps even complacent. Never forget that the very purpose of you coming to a far off foreign country is to study with due sincerity and enjoy the time in knowing the country’s culture. Stress can be managed by trying to strike a balance between the best of both worlds. Taking care of your inner emotional outbursts and loneliness is pretty tricky to say the least but a sense of nostalgia does more harm than good. It may give you joyous moments but these are only momentary.
