Is A Foundation Degree Worth It?

To adjust the academic and cultural life in a different country, Foundation year is designed to assist students to improve their skills, experience and confidence for a fully-fledged three-year undergraduate degree. It’s also referred to as gateway degrees or ‘year zero’ programs that organised into degree programs.
Foundation years for international students includes languages courses, allowing international students to refine their communication skills before starting a ‘proper degree’. It also helps the students to make new friends and learn the intricacies of the new host culture without the added pressure.
Why prepare for the foundation year?
Foundation year is an excellent option for international students to settle into a completely new environment. The foundation year can help you get ready to hit the ground and fulfil your maximum potential. However, some international students are impatient to start their academic career asap. It’s because foundation year means a delay of 12 months. However, working hard for these 12 months and prepare yourself for studying abroad might be an excellent decision you can make.
Having a good time in preparation means you dedicated a good time to your study, which inevitably leads to better grades. Therefore, some students prefer a few years of real-world experience before they understand who they are and what they want to achieve. Other students just want to travel and enjoy some years with limited pressure on academic expectations. In any way, foundation years are an invaluable way for those late bloomers to reach into higher education.
Requirement For Entry level
The eligibility criteria for foundation years vary on where you study and your circumstances. Students from the UK who have not lived up to their full academic potential, are willing to learn and to make the most of this big opportunity is much more crucial than any formal qualifications.
In fact, if you skip some large part of your schooling for health and other personal reasons, speak about it to someone from the university or college. Many universities disrupted studies scheme to promote young people to get back on track. To do so, you need to provide some medical certificate or attend interviews, but again it’s all about showing your untapped potential.
The criteria for entry-level international students are usually formal. But for the general rule, international students need to produce the following qualifications and documents:
- At least 4.5 scores or equivalent in IELTS

- Documents including a scanned copy of valid passport and students visa
- A reference letter from a high school teacher
